MPs Pledge Support for Minority Rights at All India Milli Council Event in Delhi
New Delhi: In a landmark event, the All India Milli Council hosted a reception and important session on “Constitutional Rights of Minorities in India” at the Speaker Hall of the Constitution Club. The gathering was organized to honor newly elected Members of Parliament while addressing crucial issues faced by minorities in the country.
Dr. Pervez Mian, President of the Milli Council of Delhi Province, warmly welcomed all guests in his opening address, setting the stage for meaningful discussions. The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Maulana Qari Muhammad Shafiq Qasmi, Assistant General Secretary of the Milli Council.
In his opening remarks, Sulaiman Khan, Milli Assistant General Secretary, shed light on the objectives of the meeting, emphasizing the critical need to protect minority rights under India's constitution. "In today’s climate of growing challenges, it’s essential to address the atmosphere of mistrust that is being cultivated across the nation," Khan said. "Our goal is to not only honor these newly elected MPs but also inspire them to raise issues of minority rights in Parliament."
Khan recalled the Council's historic 'Save the Constitution' movement, which was launched during the first NDA government's term. He highlighted how this movement gathered momentum and how the Council has continued to fight for constitutional rights and justice for all communities, with conventions in Delhi and Mumbai that drew attention to the protection of secularism in India.

Maulana Yasin Ali Usmani, in his keynote address, called on parliamentarians to prioritize the protection of minority communities, especially Muslims, against systemic injustices. “Over the last decade, minorities have faced increasing pressure and a wave of targeted issues designed to marginalize them. The recent attacks on religious institutions like madrasas in Uttar Pradesh are deeply troubling,” he noted.
The Council's President, Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Abdullah Mugheishi, spoke passionately about unity and justice for all citizens of India, stating that the Council’s mission has always been to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. "We seek peace, inclusion, and the rightful place of every citizen in India's growth story," he remarked. "Muslims have made tremendous contributions to the country, and their history cannot be sidelined."
Parliamentarians in attendance expressed their support for the Council’s efforts and pledged to advocate for these issues. Prominent political figures like Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi (Majlis Ittehad Muslimeen), Imran Masood (Congress), and Syed Nasir Hussain (Congress) participated actively in the discussions. Several MPs acknowledged the importance of the Council's manifesto and committed to raising the demands in Parliament.
A file containing the Council's Charter of Demands was distributed to all the MPs present, which included detailed policy suggestions and initiatives aimed at strengthening minority rights. The MPs expressed their appreciation for the Council’s efforts and assured their cooperation in taking these issues forward in both Milli and state legislatures.
Wrapping up the session, Maulana Anisur Rehman Qasmi, Milli Vice President of the Council, delivered a compelling speech, urging secular political parties to give more representation to Muslim leaders in their platforms. “We can no longer afford token representation. Secular parties must demonstrate genuine inclusion by ensuring fair representation for Muslims and other backward communities,” Qasmi emphasized.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Hasina Hashiya, central member of the Milli Council, who praised the leadership and dedication of all the Council members and office bearers. The evening ended with a formal dinner, attended by parliamentarians, dignitaries, and key stakeholders from across the country.
This significant meeting was not only a show of solidarity but also a powerful reminder of the need for unity, justice, and the protection of minority rights in India.
